Volkswagen is celebrating the launch OB-One Kenobi, The new Star Wars series, with a pair of one-off IDs. Lightning electric van. Unveiled at the California Star Wars Celebration Event, the Light Side Edition and Dark Side Edition vans are co-produced by VW and Lucasfilm.
Designers look to OB-One Kenobi and Darth Vader, two key characters who starred in the latest Star Wars series, to give the vans a look inspired by the show. The light side edition van is based on passenger buzz. It is finished in a light beige shade that echoes the cannabis tunic, and has a chrome trim piece on the upper part of the body that is inspired by the ship and the druid. The blue accents represent the light saber of the character and the logo of the rebel alliance is displayed on the wheels and in the rear window. The Finishing Touch hatch contains: “ID. Buzz” script written in Oresh font.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, the Dark Side Edition van began life as a cargo-holing lightning. It is finished in two shades of black with red accents inspired by Darth Vader’s clothing and light saber, while its wheels and rear windows proudly wear the Empire logo.
Both vans are one-off models, and nothing suggests that a Star Wars-inspired look package will be offered from the factory.
This is not the first time that Volkswagen has launched ID. Lightning in Star Wars orbit. The new electric van with R2-D2 and C-3PO appeared in an advertisement that premiered in May 2022. Actor Evan McGregor, who played OB-One, drove away. This is not the first time that an automaker has driven a one-off Star Wars vehicle. In 2017, Nissan turned its flagship car into a themed car.
