More than a year after the debut of the fifth-generation W206 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the German carmaker has begun teasing a high-powered, AMG version of its compact sedan.
The company did not provide much in detail, only a short teaser video is now our only reference point. The car shown has a Panamericana grille similar to other Mercedes-AMG models, with a sporty bumper that is similar to what you get with the AMG line package for regular C-Class.
If we significantly brighten up a screen capture of the video, we can see that the prominent consumers in the bumper corner are basically closed, suggesting a successor to the W205 C 43 4Matic, which will be called C 53 4Matic.
In the more powerful W205 C 63, these eclipses are open for maximum cooling for its 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8, where they are enclosed in the outgoing C 43 which has a more modest 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6.
The new C53 has been spotted on previous spits and is expected to switch to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with the latest M459 2.0-liter unit used in the A45 being a potential candidate. The M139 produces 421 PS (416 hp) and 500 Nm of torque on the top-spec A45 S, which is equivalent to the C6’s V6, which delivers 367 PS (362 hg) and 520 Nm.
The next C63 has already been confirmed to have a four-cylinder engine to drive the rear wheels, albeit hybrid technology and an electric exhaust-gas turbocharger, resulting in a 449 PS (443 hp). With an electric motor on the rear axle, the company claims a total system output of 653 PS (644 hp), surpassing the outgoing, range-topping C63 S ‘V8 with 510 PS (500 hp).
We don’t have to wait long to find out what’s next for the latest C-Class from Mercedes-AMG, as the company says “more is coming soon.” Stay tuned.
