Ah, this is the 2022 European Car of the Year This is the first visit of Kia EV6 in Malaysia, especially Shah Alam at BAuto Training School in Glenmari. Bermaz Auto (BAuto) has been planning a local launch since last year, and the SUV is tracking for a Q3 / Q4 debut.
It’s not clear which variant, or how many models BAuto will offer, but we’ll cover the line-up to give you an idea of what to expect. First, it sits on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which is shared with its twin brother Hyundai Ionic 5. In terms of size, the EV6 and Ioniq 5 are pretty much the same, but Kia’s wheelbase is 2,900mm as opposed to Hyundai’s 3,000mm.
For powertrain, the EV6 can be an RWD (single motor) or AWD (dual motor), as well as two lithium-ion polymer battery packs – 58 kWh or 77.4 kWh. A maximum range of 510 km can be achieved. Output of small batteries ranges from 125 kW (170 PS and 350 Nm) for RWD to 173 kW (235 PS and 605 Nm) for AWD models.
Step-by-step up to 77.4 kWh batteries 168 kW (228 PS and 350 Nm) for RWD, or 239 kW (325 PS and 605 Nm) for AWD models. The range-topping EV6 GT is offered exclusively with twin motors and a 77.4 kWh battery, producing a stunning 585 PS and 740 Nm of torque.
The standard for the EV6 is the 800-volt electrical architecture, which allows the EV6 to receive ultra-fast DC charging without the need for additional adapters or components. The 77.4 kWh battery can be recharged from 10% to 80% state-of-charge in just 18 minutes, or the 100 km range of the battery can be added in less than four and a half minutes. It also has the Ioniq 5’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, which can supply 3.6 kilowatts to power your device or charge another EV.
It is unknown at this time what the price of the Kia EV6 will be in Malaysia, but looking at how well the Ioniq 5 is doing, we can expect some competitive price. For your reference, the price of the Ioniq 5 ranges from RM200k to RM277k (fully specified), and the current waiting list is about one year. So, what do you get?
