A team of Dutch University students has redesigned the RV with solar power and an aerodynamic shape.
As explained in detail at the recent “Full Charged Show”, the Stella Vita is an electric RV with a fold-out solar panel designed by Solar Team Eindhoven, a group of engineering students at Eindhoven University of Technology.
In 2021, the team embarked on a 1,864-mile road trip across Europe, from Eindhoven to Spain. The RV route required only two charging stops. A 74.5-mph maximum speed means the Stella Vita can run with minimal traffic.

The Stella Vita has a 60-kwh lithium-ion battery pack, which receives some charge from the roof-mounted solar panel. According to the solar team Eindhoven, they can generate 2 kilowatts when folded or 4 kilowatts when opened. The general range is estimated at 372 miles, but it could be increased to 453 miles on a sunny day, the team claimed.
With its solar panels and pop-up roof folds, the Stella Vita is 23.6 feet long, 6.7 feet wide and 6.0 feet long. It has an aluminum chassis with an aluminum / foam core and a fiberglass body, which helps keep the weight at 3,747 pounds.
The Stella Vita serves as proof of the concept, but at least one past solar-vehicle project has become a vehicle with manufacturing ambitions.
The LightYear One Solar Cartio also started with student team members and has become a real product, to be assembled by Valmet from Finland. The goal is to offset the need for charging through “grid leap” solar. That’s where the Sono Sion solar-supplemented EV will be made.
