The Ford F-150 Lightning Home Power Backup System has a price tag

As it prepares to deliver the first F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck to customers, Ford Truck’s home backup power system has confirmed the price for the hardware.

Customers who want to use their pickups as a source of backup power will first need a Ford Charge Station Pro, Matthew Stover, director of automaker charging and power services, told the LinkedIn Post. The 80-amp Charge Station Pro comes with the version with the Extended Range Pack, but with the Standard Range Pack it is an extra $ 1,310.

Then, customers will need a home integration system that connects to the Charge Station Pro. The $ 3,895 system includes electronic signal inverter, disconnected switch and a battery pack (still unspecified) to allow functionality. When the power goes out, the system automatically switches off the grid and starts drawing power from the truck.

The home integration system will be sold through Sunrun, the installation cost depends on the customer’s personal home setup, Stover noted. The installation will probably add $ 2,000 and for those who are getting an extended range truck the whole system will cost less than $ 6,000.

In effect, it could turn the F-150 Lightning into a home backup power broker প্রদান providing some of the functions of a Tesla powerwall, if the car is at home and plugged in. Currently Ford is the only automaker that has released a complete ecosystem. Cover that scenario.

With 131 kwh from the extended range pack, a lightning can be enough to provide backup power for a large home for many days. Ford is also studying bidirectional capabilities, and how such a system could help buffer the grid.
