The back of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma seems to have coil spring suspension

The next-generation Toyota Tacoma is being tested these days, and it looks like it’s pulling out a page from the new Toyota Tundra book for its rear suspension. These spy photos give us a good look at the suspension design and a decent look at the truck itself.

Traditionally, Toyota has used large sweeper-style camouflage to hide its rear suspension from view, but Toyota appears to have removed the guards for off-road testing in these spy shots. In this case, we clearly understand that this Tacoma is not a rear-leaf springs game. Also, the geometry is similar to what we already know in the 2022 Toyota Tundra. For example, it has similar weapons to the tundra.

Unfortunately, we do not see physical coil springs in these shots, but it is relatively safe to guess with what we see. Even before looking at any physical evidence, the educated will assume that the new Tacoma will have a rear coil spring suspension that will share the new tundra and Tacoma platforms based on the report. It just means that Toyota will share the love of smooth riding with the medium-sized Tacoma, and we’re happy to see proof of that.

For the rest of the pickup, Toyota covered it with canvas and camouflage. A few notable items that we can peek through, though, are the front and rear lights. The front LEDs seem to deviate from the tundra’s design, but the taillights look like carbon copies of the tundra’s tail. That vertical-oriented triple-bar LED is quite distinctive, and the only thing that stands out from the tundra is the sheer size of the light – the small taillights in the small truck make perfect sense.

We’ll notice that there’s also a shot of the interior, but it seems like a complete mess and the work is going on, so there isn’t much knowledge to collect. Toyota has not made any official announcement as to when the next Tacoma will be launched, but our best guess is an announcement for the 2024 model year.
