It is better to be true A popular Malay proverb that perfectly defines this story. A short 10-second TikTok video has recently gone viral which is believed to be the next generation Perodua Myvi, but the actual car was the third generation Peugeot 308.
At the time of writing, the video has garnered over 2.1 million views and over 1,000 comments, many of whom were excited about the possibility of a new Myvi. There were quite a few users who called him, of course, but those who have no idea what the new 308 looks like will easily be distracted by the video headlines and the usual social media appeal.
If you look closely at the back of the hatch, there’s a red sticker – clearly outlined in white – that says ‘left hand drive’. This is also quite evident in the viral tick video. It was traveling in a convoy behind a Citroen DS3 crossback. However, Perodua test mules are rarely seen in the wild, and even if they were, you could bet your life savings that they would be completely disguised.
Now, this is actually the same test car that was seen in Penang earlier this year, but this time we’re going to take a closer look. Standout features include a large panoramic sunroof, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with Continental Premium Contact 6 tires (205/60 R16), four-door keyless entry, black side mirror caps and GT line kit.
The 308 is the first Peugeot model to wear the company’s new Lion Head logo, which is found on the radiator grille, front fender and tailgate (clearly masked here). It rides on the same efficient modular platform (EMP2) as before, but in terms of proportions, it is 20mm shorter, 11mm longer, and the wheelbase is 55mm wider.
So far, the 308 is only available with three engine choices, starting with a 1.2-liter Puretech petrol, 1.5 BluHDI diesel and a 1.6 Puretech hybrid. Output for the 1.2 liter lamp ranges from 110 PS to 130 PS, while the plug-in hybrid can be in 180 PS or 225 PS tuned. There is no indicative timeline for the new 308 launch here in Malaysia and the same can be said for the new Myvi.
