Parents of an unlicensed teen driver who ran over a lawn mower in Sg. Beating

The transport ministry said action could be taken against anyone who allowed an unlicensed person to drive. It comes after a fatal accident in Kedah over the weekend, where a car driven by a teenager fell on two mowers, killing one of them and seriously injuring another.

In the incident at Jalan Pintasan Semling, Sungai Petani, the driver saw a 16-year-old boy driving without a valid driving license. Has been named Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wei Ka Seong said action could be taken against the girl’s parents.

“Under the Road Transport Act, anyone who allows their children or minors to drive their cars can be held liable. Action will be taken not only against the driver, but also against the owner of the vehicle, who will be subject to the toughest action for negligence and hitting any party, ”he said.

“If convicted, strict action can be taken because the teenager does not have a driver’s license and insurance coverage,” he said, adding that for this reason, no injury or loss would be covered by insurance.

Wei said there was a need to prevent such incidents from happening again. “We need to protect the safety of pedestrians,” he said. Meanwhile, Kuala Muda Police Chief ACP Zaidi Che Hassan said the youth, who was unharmed in the incident, has been detained for further investigation.
