Kimi Rকikkেনnen will run the NASCAR Cup race in Watkins Glen

CONCORD, NC – Kimi Rকikkেনnen, the 2007 Formula One World Champion, will be driving the No. 91 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in a NASCAR Cup Series race at the Watkins Glenn International Road Course for trackhouse racing on August 21st.

Rোনikkেনnen retired from Formula One last year after competing with Sauber, McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus and Alfa Romeo. The Finnish has won 21 races in his F1 career and is on 103 podiums.

He drove the Scuderia Ferrari in 2007 to win the F1 World Driving title.

He will participate as part of a program called PROJECT91 aimed at expanding the trackhouse’s international reach by fielding a cup entry for famous international racing drivers. Trackhouse Racing is a division of Trackhouse Entertainment Group, the initiative of former driver Justin Marks and Grammy Award-winning rapper Pitbull.

Rকikkেনnen previously competed in the ExxonMobil and Truck Series races at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in May 2011. He never took part in the cup race.

“I didn’t want to race again, but Justin came to my house in Switzerland and convinced me how serious he was about putting together a top program,” Rোনikkেনnen said in a press release on Thursday. “It will be fun, but it is something I will take very seriously. I know how competitive the NASCAR Cup Series is and it will be a big challenge. “

Marks said Wright’s entry into the Wickins Glen is the only PROJECT91 race planned for 2022, but expects more races in 2023 with additional drivers.

“Kimi Rকikknen is the driver I first came across when we created Project 91,” Marks said in a news release Thursday. “Kimi is a world-renowned driver with talent and fan followers. We’ve had long discussions, and like us, he’s already working hard to prepare for Watkins Glenn.

Cup driver Ryan Blaney says he’s looking forward to competing against Rকikknen, saying it’s great to play.

“Yeah, Iceman,” Blaney said. “I’m a big fan and I’m glad to see him grow up and race the F1. I think that’s a great idea.”

Blaine calls Rকikkেনnen a great driver, but he hopes that with the limited preparation time it will be difficult for him to adapt to the new Cup car.

Daniel Suarez (No. 99) and Ross Chastain (No. 1) are currently in the Cup Series for Trackhouse Racing, a division of Trackhouse Entertainment Group.
