With more EVs coming to market, it was only a matter of time before newer cars found representation in the form of diecasts. For 2022, Hot Wheels is bringing a new green speed series that puts spotlights on various lineups of electric vehicles.
The Five-Car series features a fun mix of EVs from a variety of manufacturers and a wide range of styles. Some completely bone stock. For a traditional luxury sedan, the Silver has a Lucid Air, complete with glass (or in this case, clear plastic) canopy. For fans of the Teutonic 4-door “Coupes”, the Daytona Gray has an Audi RS E-Tron GT. Ticked in the truck box is a yellow Hummer EV which can only be described as a throwback of H3.
But since it’s hot wheels, there are also “hot-roded” variants in the lineup. Instead of just a regular Nissan Leaf, they chose to cast a carbon fiber-bodied NISMO RC 2.0 race car. Similarly with Ford, instead of the standard Mustang Mach-E, they have taken the Mustang Mach-E 1400 drift car.
This is not the first time that Hot Wheels has released the Green Speed series. The line debuted in 2016 but at that time reflected limited EV choices in the original car market. The only non-fantasy cars in the series were the first generation Tesla Roadster, Tesla Model S and Chevy Volt. Hot Wheels redesigned the line again in 2019, this time adding a Tesla Model 3 and a Porsche Panamera Turbo SE-Hybrid Sport Tourismo.
Hot Wheels makes other mini EVs that do not fit into this particular line of models. If you want to collect them, there is the concept of second generation Tesla Roadster, CyberTrack, Jaguar i-Pace, Pininfarina Batista, Porsche Tycoon and a Volkswagen ID. Similarly, Tesla has released a version of Roadster with matchbox durable packaging for boot.
If you must have an old school gasoline burner, Hot Wheels also has plenty of options for you, say, this snappy FJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser. The 2022 Hot Wheels Green Speed series should now be available with your local retailers.
