Last week, BMW unveiled a rather special G82 M4 CSL to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its M division. Only 1,000 units of the M4 CSL will be made, so if you miss the allocation, what are your options?
Well, the German carmaker has released the current M4 as well as the 50 Jahre BMW M version of the G80 M3, both available with standard (480 PS / 550 Nm) or competing (510 PS / 650 Nm) engines. The corresponding transmission – six-speed manual or eight-speed M-steptronic automatic – depends on the engine chosen, such as rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Although the 50 Jahre BMW M version models share the same mechanics as the regular M3 and M4, they do have aesthetic enhancements to distinguish them. First, these cars will have an exterior paintwork that incorporates the history colors of the BMW M, similarly complemented by fake wheels in an exclusive color scheme.
In the case of the M4, the options available for body color include Carbon Black, Macaw Blue, Brands Hatch Gray, Emola Red and San Marino Blue, where the wheels can be in two matte finishes – Orbit Gray and Gold Bronze.
These options are exclusive to Europe and other selected sales regions, but in China, the exterior paint finishes are Fire Orange (with Orbit Gray wheels) and Stratus Gray (with Gold Bronze wheels). According to the company, these colors are related to the fact that BMW M’s anniversary is being celebrated in the market year of the Tiger.
Inside, the door seal panel reads “Version 50 Zahre BMW M”, while the center console has a metal plaque with “M4 version 50 Zahre BMW M” that matches the imprint on the headrests of the front seats (standard M sports seats) or optional M car. Seats).
Meanwhile, the M3 50 Jahre BMW M is designed for the US and Canadian markets only and will be offered in five exterior paint finish choices – Vermilion Red, Techno Violet, Interlagos Blue, Fire Orange and Limerock Gray. All colors are paired with Orbit Gray imitation wheels and selected M performance parts like front splitter, rear spoiler and carbon / titanium tailpipe trim.
Like the M4, the Edition 50 Jahre BMW M gets a door seal trim, but the seats get an M stripe on their headrest and an exclusive seam pattern instead. The center console’s cupholder cover also has a metal blade with the inscription “M3 version 50 Jahre BMW M” and reference “1/500”, indicating limited production of only 500 units for these markets. The M4 comes in limited quantities depending on what is sold in the market.
