Formula 1: After Drive to Survive, Netflix has been renewed for the 5th and 6th seasons.

Documentary series Formula 1: Drive to survive It was nothing more than a success for the sport, bringing the pinnacle of motorsport to people who would not otherwise have tuned in to see 20 men walking around in circles on Sundays. So it’s no surprise that Netflix has confirmed that it’s not one, but has renewed the show for two more seasons.

According to the streaming giant, Drive to survive Growing in popularity over time, Season 4 has “attracted the most viewers so far” and ranks in the weekly top 10 of the service in 56 countries. Not surprisingly, the last ten episodes chronicle the 2021 nail-biting season and the epic, down-to-the-war title fight between Lewis Hamilton and finalist Max Verstappen.

The fifth season will cover this year’s championship, which includes new cars – specifically designed to improve racing – and which is going to be an interesting duality between Verstapen and newcomer Charles Leclerc. As usual, Netflix claims “unprecedented access” and “never-before-seen footage and interviews from the biggest names in the sport.”

Drive to survive The extra dramatic nature of some of the material has drawn criticism from drivers and other staff, which has led even Verstapen to refuse to participate in the show. However, it has helped to expand the appeal of the sport, especially in the lucrative United States where F1 has struggled before. It is no coincidence that the announcement was made on the eve of the inaugural Miami Grand Prix weekend, the second U.S. race on the calendar – the third, to be held in Las Vegas, 2023.
