Ford has closed the 2022 F-150 Lightning books. Interest in electric pickups has surpassed expectations, with all trim levels now being talked about for conservation. Now when you visit Ford’s F-150 Lighting Landing page, a message reads, “Due to high demand, the current model year is no longer available for retail order. Contact your dealer for more information.”
In January, Ford stopped saving for fleet orders after receiving 200,000 within a few months. It even persuaded the company to produce almost double the planned 80,000 to 150,000 F-150 lighting each year. Then, just a few weeks ago, Ford sent a letter to dealers informing them that retail customers could no longer place that order.39,974 2022 F-150 Lightning Pro and $ 52,974 F-150 Lightning XLT.
Now the $ 67,474 F-150 Lightning Lariat and the $ 90,874 F-150 Lightning Platinum have met the same fate. Ford authorities Reportedly, the company estimates that 80% of reservation holders will finish buying trucks, and some of them are already waiting for 2023 model year production. Add to that the chip deficit, which is now predicted to last until 2024, and you can probably expect a long wait before orders open back up.
However, not all is lost. With retail customer orders closed, you can wait for next year’s order book to open, or you may be able to snatch 2022 from a dealer’s allotment. You won’t get your specific options and color choices from dealer stock, though, unless you’re really lucky. Nevertheless, given the F-150 Lightning and the demand for new cars in general, you may be looking at a significant markup. There have also been recent incidents of entrepreneurial flippers buying hard-to-get cars and selling them at auction sites for a tidy profit immediately after delivery.
Ford recently knocked it out of the park with truthful hits like the Bronco and the Mustang Mach-e. Incidentally, reservations for later ones are also closed, although the message is somewhat different. It states, “Due to high demand, the current model year is no longer available for retail orders. Limited inventories may be available from selected dealers. Contact your dealer for more information.”
