Ferrari confirms that Purosangue will receive a V12

While Ferrari’s press release announces a home for a “new” V12 engine, the Italians in Maranello did not mention the upcoming SUV, which is expected to be named Purosangu. But they mentioned their “new blood lineage” and the English word for “purusangu” was “purusangu”.

The news confirms what almost everyone expected and everyone else hoped that Ferrari’s latest family offer would get V12 power. The engine is probably not new, but an evolution of the F140 V12 that has driven other stable models since 2002. It will probably rise from the 812 Superfast to the 6.5-liter unit and take the game from there. Since the company’s V12 has been producing more than 700 horsepower for many years now, we have reason to believe that Purosangue could steal the crown of the most powerful ICE SUV from the Aston Martin DBX707. Australian outlets Drive Wrote “rumor 610KW upward proposal,” which would be more than 818 horsepower.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna told Reuters: “We’ve tested a number of options, and it’s clear that the V12 was the right choice for the market for performance and driving experience.”

The Powertrain menu will include other engine options, including at least part of a hybrid setup and a battery-electric model that will be on display in two or three years. We’ll have to wait and see if that V12 will be part of a hybrid system, probably connected to the same e-AWD system as the SF90 Stradale, plugged into the ICE unit of choice. Ferrari has 3.9-liter and 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8s, and a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 lineup working elsewhere. On Capital Market Day on June 16, Ferrari will say more about its electrification plans.

Based on spy videos and leaked images from the factory, this expanded wagon form looks more like an evolution of the GT4Lusso – which began life as an FF in 2011 – than a standard high-riding SUV. It would be amazing for school and ski runs, perhaps not ready for off-road work outside of a gravel road. We’ll find out more when Purosangue launches later this year.
