DC will charge more for operating heavy-duty trucks with an EV kicker

A proposal to ban the use of heavy-duty pickup trucks on city streets could also affect EVs.

The District of Columbia will soon require vehicle owners weighing more than ,000 6,000 to pay a 500 annual registration fee, which is about seven times the fee for a typical sedan. Bloomberg Reported Thursday.

However, not everyone agrees that light cars reduce safety. EVAs and hybrids are required to comply with EPA quiet vehicle rules to warn pedestrians. Heavy-duty pickups driven in urban areas hook off because it is assumed that the sound of their engine will be a sufficient warning for pedestrians.
