In 2021, Cherry was able to deliver a total of 961,926 vehicles, an increase of 31.7% year on year and a new record for Chinese carmakers. Similarly, the impressive 269,154 units that the company exported last year increased 136.3% from 2020 and enough to hold its top ranking for Chinese passenger vehicle exports to Cherry for 19 consecutive years.
The key to Cherry’s export success is the car’s “Pro” family, which currently has four SUVs – the Tiggo 2 Pro, Tiggo 4 Pro, Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro – including a single sedan, the Arrizo 6 Pro. These models are already well-received in a number of markets worldwide, including Eastern Europe, South America, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
As Cherry prepares to return to Malaysia, here’s the pro family and what to expect. Currently, the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro have already been confirmed for our market, the Omada 5 is also part of the mix (more on the B-segment crossover from Chery’s new Omada product series here).
Tiggo 7 Pro
One of the three SUVs that Cherry Malaysia has already confirmed, the Tiggo 7 Pro is a C-segment SUV with five seats that will appeal to people like Proton X70, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage. . , Peugeot 3008, Nissan X-Trail and Subaru Forester.
The Tiggo 7 Pro has two engines, both turbocharged and four-cylinder. The first is a 1.5 liter unit with 150 PS rated at 5,500 rpm and 230 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 4,000 rpm, driven by a CVT with nine virtual ratios. The engine can be mated to a 48-volt light hybrid system that can help fuel efficiency – without it 5.8 l / 100 km instead of 6.8 l / 100 km.
Another option is a 1.6 liter direct-injected mill with 197 PS and 290 Nm – peak torque comes with 2,000 rpm. Also with front-wheel drive but instead using a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the 1.6-liter engine’s fuel consumption is rated at 6.6L / 100km.
In the Chinese home market, the Tiggo 7 Pro comes with remote engine start, power-adjustable front seat with driver’s side memory, “self-cleaning” dual-zone climate control with an ionizer and air quality sensor, like a cloud. An infotainment system based with karaoke mode, voice control, over-the-air software updates, a panoramic sunroof and a Sony eight-speaker sound system.
There’s another premium version called the Tiggo 7 Plus, which gets a great dual 12.3-inch screen on the inside, a re-styled bumper and a slightly improved interior. The infotainment system also runs on Chery’s Lion 4.0 operating system with Baidu CarLife and Apple CarPlay.
We are not sure which version we will get, but we should bring a good amount of security kits to compete against the competition. The Tiggo 7 Pro features automotive emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, speed limit assist, door opening warning, park assist, and automatic high beam. Control
Tiggo 8 Pro
If you need a bigger body and more seats, here is the Tiggo 8 Pro, another SUV that will launch here. Its wheelbase is 2,710mm longer than the 2,670mm of the Tigo 7 Pro, allowing it to fit two more seats for a total of seven.
Occupying the D-segment, options include Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento and Mazda CX-8, Hyundai Palisade and CX-9. Like the Tiggo 7 Pro, the Tiggo 8 Pro comes with a comprehensive suite of security and driver assistance systems, while the rest of the equipment list is also competitive.
Depending on the market it sells, the Tiggo 8 Pro Matrix LED headlight comes with features like an 18-inch wheel, a powered panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation, a 10.25-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless charging trays, dual-zone climate control and leather upholstery.
Powerfully, the Seven-Seater is powered by a 1.6-liter TGDI petrol engine – also shared with the Omoda 5 – that produces 200 PS at 5,500 rpm and 290 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 4,400 rpm. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends the drive to the front wheels. Other engines in the Actico range include a 2.0-liter unit as well as a 1.5-liter mill with light hybrid technology.
According to Cherry, the 500,000th unit of the Tiggo 8 series recently moved away from the carmaker’s assembly line, making it the fastest model to achieve the production mark between a Chinese-brand medium-sized and a seven-seater SUV.
Tiggo 4 Pro
The Tiggo 4 Pro is one of the SUVs mentioned when Chery first announced its return to Malaysia, and the B-segment SUV has been seen on our roads in the past (also known as the Tiggo 5x in China).
Built on the T1X platform – also used by the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro – the Tiggo 4 Pro has no shortage of engine options. Depending on the market it sells, there are two 1.5-liter engines (113 PS NA and 147 PS Turbo in South Africa) and a 124 PS 2.0 liter is offered, along with a five-speed manual or CVT.
Referring to the South African specification, the Tiggo 4 Pro is available with six airbags, a simple array of passive safety systems, keyless entry and engine start, cruise control, LED headlamps, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch. The Omada 5 Cherry will offer Malaysia’s B-segment SUV that will pack more premium features, the Tiggo 4 Pro will probably be missed for our market, although it may still fit with more affordable points.
Tiggo 2 Pro
For the smaller ones, we have the A-segment Tiggo 2 Pro (also called Tigo 3x Plus), which is currently available in the Philippines, producing a 1.5-liter NA four-pot with 108 PS and 140 Nm, combined with a CVT.
