The 2023 Audi RS 5 is getting a little more serious with the addition of a new and comprehensive competition package. Available for both the RS 5 coupe and the Sportback, this 16,100 package dramatically increases performance, and it should definitely be for that amount of cash.
A stable and more aggressive coilover suspension has been installed and the vehicle ride height has been reduced by 0.4 inches. Although the suspension system is height-adjustable, owners can reduce it further by 0.4 inches to a standard RS 5 to 0.8 inches. A new Sport Way Bar has been installed at the front, and the Mega-Gripie Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires have been fitted with new 19-inch wheels at the four corners. The Quattro Sport Rear Differential has been “enhanced” to increase agility in dynamic mode. The ABS system is tuned differently, and Audi claims that the stopping distance is reduced from 62 to 0 miles per hour by 6.5 feet – the carbon ceramic brake package is standard with this model. Even the steering has been addressed, and Audi says it has been dialed to be more precise than before, offering a fixed ratio of 13.1: 1.
Change laundry list continues. Audi has re-programmed the transmission control unit to reduce transmission time and make different modes more distinct. The all-wheel drive system has been re-tuned to transfer more power to the rear wheels, although Audi does not provide specific torque distribution statistics. The top speed of the Dynamic Plus package has been increased from 174 miles per hour to a top speed of 6 miles per hour, with the new Top End increasing to 180 miles per hour. A new (and exclusive) exhaust system has been installed that provides a “more intense sound”. Also, the 18-pound sound deadening between the Audi engine’s bogie and the interior eliminates the need for more engine noise to enter the cabin.
Package-exclusive interior appointments include “Pearl Nappa and Dynamica” seat accessories that replace “Fine Nappa” seats. Many other components have been redesigned to feature red stitching, including the steering wheel, shift lever and center console. Both the seat belt and the floor mat get new red edges to keep the red theme going. The Audi Ground Projection Light will have an “RS Competition” logo and the digital cluster has a new display called “Runway Mode” which is exclusive to the competition package model.
Extra carbon fiber has been added to the exterior, including the front splitter, rear diffuser and side mirror. The Black Exterior Trim is an alternative to the trim of other RS5 models, but uses a high-gloss black finish as standard in the Audi Competition models. There is an exclusive paint option exclusively for the competition package model, and this is the “Sabering Black Crystal Effect” paint you see in the photo here.
Before the other options, a 2023 Audi RS5 coupe with a competitive package costs 93,095, including destination charges. If you want the Sportback model, it will cost 93,395. Audi says you will be able to order this model from June this year, but did not specify when dealers would expect it.
